We Love Children!

C2Kids (children up to grade 5) is secure and a great place for your children to be!  Our age based groups Sprouts, Zoom, and Surge have interactive programs tailored to teach biblical principles in a fun environment that relates to children.  Teaching is reinforced though small groups and parent take-home cue cards.  Parents can enjoy the Sunday services without worry because we have a dedicated, trained team and an emergency notification system.

C2Students (grades 6-12) is an environment where every student matters!  Your children can mature into young adults through modern worship, relevant teaching, fun activities and connection in small groups. They also have opportunities to participate in missions trips, spiritual growth weekends, summer youth camps and more!

There’s something more people need to know about C2 in Columbia, MO. It’s not a typical church. The asterisk says it is more than an ordinary church in the way many think of church. C2 is the body of Christ in action. Adopting the asterisk symbol is a reminder of the true mission of the Church as a whole.

“Many times as Christians we are guilty of being happy if our needs are met, our preferences adhered to and we are spiritually fed,” said Jeremy Risner, lead pastor. “Meanwhile, our world is spiritually starving, broken and without hope and we, the Church, are marginalized as an irrelevant, impersonal and inconsequential institution.”

Christians, though, are the Church. Christ is the head of the church. Christians are the called and sent ones.

If Christians are not reaching out and being more to those in neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and communities, then they just are a group of people providing a “feel-good start to the week.”

So, what would being more than a church look like? Some words to explain it might include courage, compassion, generosity, generations, sending, missional, leadership, serving, creative, pray and work.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near, “ Hebrews 10:24-25, ESV.

Many times this isn’t done because the Church has stopped considering and being creative and have outsourced the future. “We outsourced storytelling to Hollywood, innovation to Apple, care of the poor and education of our children to the government, ministry to the pastors, paid staff and a few volunteers, the way we do things to the way we’ve done things,” Risner said

God is a creative God and although He never changes in character, He often changes in His methods. “We’ve taken a life-changing message institutionalized it, traditionalized it, programmized it and said the way we do it can never change,” he said. “Meanwhile we have failed to creatively communicate to a culture that is constantly changing.”

The church also needs to stir up courage, leadership and influence in the world around it.  Stirring up means to become more passionate, to motivate and inspire others to become a contagious movement of passionate followers of Christ.

“We need a church growing leaders, not attenders; building owners, not members; courageous in loving, living and giving; all focused on the mission of growing disciples and reaching  people.”

The defining character of Christ’s Church and it’s observable outcome is compassion and serving. As James 2:17 says, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Another aspect of being more than a church is meeting together and encouraging one another. “We should be a church united by bold prayers and passionate worship extending  beyond a Sunday experience into accountable, disciple-building groups throughout the week in the community.”

These small group gatherings should include bold prayer, passionate worship, challenge to continue the mission, significant relationships, ministries, discipleship of all generations and older empowering the younger.

“God may be saving your best years, your best investments, your legacy-defining moments for this time,” Risner said. He encouraged those who are older to finish strong. Many leaders’ greatest experiences are saved for late in the race.

Being the sent ones means as the Church, Christians should have a driving passion and unquenchable burden to see people transformed by the life and hope found in Jesus. The focus should be salvations and life transformations.

The mission of God is the mission of the church, which is to restore, redeem and reconcile mankind to God. The proof of the God’s Holy Spirit at work is people repenting and coming to faith in Christ and proclaiming it publicly through water baptism.
